Siemens Exec Eyes Further Growth as More PH Firms Turn to Smart Infra

Manila: An official of Siemens is optimistic about the sustained growth of their operations in the Philippines as more domestic players turn to smart infrastructure. Fabian Bergeron, Siemens Inc. Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the positive outlook during the ceremonial turnover of command from his predecessor, Jose Marie Enrico Buergo, on Tuesday evening. Bergeron emphasized that the decarbonization initiatives undertaken by more power producers in the country are set to bolster Siemens’ business, as the company provides components and technologies designed to help reduce the carbon footprint of power producers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bergeron noted that while the business of supplying key components to power grids is just a part of their overall operations in the country, it is a significant portion that is expected to remain strong as more companies move towards automation. He revealed ongoing discussions with potential clients for a technology that aims to eliminate the potent greenhouse gas sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), replacing it with clean air for power production.

Bergeron shared, “We have done it already with other customers in other countries. (The) Philippines, I think, will be one of the next ones to adopt this technology to decarbonize their operations. That’s for smart infrastructure. Factory automation is a low-hanging fruit,” he told journalists. He further commented on the various technologies Siemens offers that help customers reduce energy consumption, thereby diminishing their carbon footprint. The dual benefit of saving money and aiding the climate was noted as an attractive proposition for businesses.

Additionally, Bergeron mentioned that Siemens’ investments in renewable energy (RE) are primarily through their partners. He highlighted the positive impact of the government’s efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s total energy mix, which he believes will provide a significant boost to Siemens’ domestic business operations.
