Ilocos region: Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) continued to weaken as it moved farther away from the Ilocos Region, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. The center of Uwan was estimated at 175 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
According to Philippines News Agency, Uwan is moving northwestward at 10 kph, with strong to typhoon-force winds extending outward up to 850 km from its center. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 remains hoisted over parts of Northern and Central Luzon, including Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and portions of Pangasinan and Zambales. These areas may experience gale-force winds within the next 24 hours, posing a minor to moderate threat to life and property.
Signal No. 1 is up over the rest of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (including Polillo Islands), Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Calamian Islands, and parts of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur. These areas may experience strong winds and minimal to minor damage.
Uwan will continue to bring heavy rains and strong winds over Northern Luzon and surrounding areas. Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas are advised to remain alert and follow local evacuation orders. Even areas not under wind signals may experience gusty conditions reaching strong to gale-force strength, particularly over Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.
A moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surges reaching 1.0 to 3.0 meters is possible within 12 hours over low-lying or exposed coastal communities in Ilocos Region, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro (including Lubang Island), and Calamian Islands.
A gale warning remains in effect over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the western seaboards of Southern Luzon. Sea conditions are very rough to high (up to 7.0 meters) along the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Region, and Zambales, making sea travel risky for all vessels.
Uwan is expected to recurve northwestward and eventually turn northeastward as it moves toward the waters southwest of Taiwan, where it may briefly re-intensify before weakening again. It is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Monday night or early Tuesday and may re-enter by Wednesday evening as it approaches Taiwan before weakening into a remnant low by Friday.
