Calayan: Super Typhoon Nando, internationally known as Ragasa, is anticipated to pass very close to or make landfall over Calayan Island between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA’s 2 p.m. bulletin reveals that the cyclone was last located over the coastal waters of Babuyan Island, Calayan, Cagayan at 1 p.m. The storm is carrying maximum sustained winds of 215 km per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 295 km per hour. Signal No. 5 remains in effect over the Babuyan Islands, indicating life-threatening conditions and typhoon-force winds in the area.

Typhoon-force winds are also anticipated in regions under Signal No. 4, which include southern Batanes, the northern tip of mainland Cagayan, and the northern part of Ilocos Norte. Meanwhile, storm-force winds marked by Signal No. 3 are expected to affect the rest of Batanes, central Cagayan, northern and central Apayao, and the rest of Ilocos Norte.

Regions under Signals No. 2 and 1, such as portions of Isabela, Abra, Kalinga, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Bulacan, and Quezon, will experience gale to strong winds. PAGASA has also issued a warning about a life-threatening storm surge exceeding 3 meters that could affect coastal areas of Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur within the next 24 hours.

Additionally, the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Super Typhoon Nando, is expected to bring strong to gale-force gusts across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, compounding the adverse weather conditions faced by these regions.
