"I don't know what to say, I just can't," Skinner stated, highlighting the special place La Union holds in his heart due to its welcoming community, favorable waves, and ideal weather conditions. Skinner, who also crafts surfboards, won on one of his own designs, marking a significant personal achievement.
Skinner further acknowledged the Filipino surfers who participated, praising their role in elevating the level of longboarding both locally and globally. "These guys and girls from the Philippines are raising the level of longboarding globally, not just here in the Philippines," he remarked, expressing his admiration for them.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Cash Hoover made headlines with her exceptional performance, posting the equal highest women's total during her first heat. Her skillful nose-riding and classic carves at Monaliza Point secured her position on the tour, a feat that left her overjoyed. "I cried tears of joy coming out of the water," Hoover revealed, underscoring the hard work and stress that went into her preparation for the event.
In addition to Skinner and Hoover's triumphs, Japan's Natsumi Taoka secured a spot in the LT Wildcards by finishing second in the women's competition. Local surfers Rogelio Esquievel Jr. and Jomarie Ebueza also impressed, securing second and third places respectively. Esquievel's dramatic semifinal win and Ebueza's return to the LT in his sophomore year were notable highlights of the event.
Jomarie Ebueza expressed his gratitude, stating, "I'm super happy and I'm super stoked. Thank you so much to all the supporters and to my family. Let's go back to work too. Let's do it again." His words encapsulated the spirit of determination and community that defined the competition.
