Singapore: Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is scheduled to visit the Philippines on June 4 and 5 for an official visit, as announced by Malaca±ang. This two-day visit follows Wong’s recent reappointment as Prime Minister.
According to Philippines News Agency, the visit is happening at the invitation of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. This event marks Prime Minister Wong’s first official visit to the Philippines, highlighting the significance of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The leaders are expected to engage in bilateral discussions on Wednesday. The agenda includes topics such as health, climate change mitigation, and civil service cooperation. “The leaders will also exchange views on political and economic issues of significance to the region,” the Palace stated.
Singapore is an important economic ally for the Philippines. In 2024, it ranked as the country’s eighth largest trading partner. Additionally, Singapore is home to approximately 220,000 Filipinos, making it a key location for overseas Filipino workers.
This visit follows the last official trip by a Singaporean Prime Minister to the Philippines, which took place in 2017. Wong assumed office, succeeding Lee Hsien Loong, in May 2024.
