Bicol: The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has reported the arrest of 21 individuals and the seizure of illegal drugs valued at over PHP1.4 million during a series of operations conducted from May 26 to June 1.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-5 spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib stated that 19 anti-illegal drug operations led to the confiscation of 213.1630 grams of suspected shabu and three grams of marijuana. These substances collectively hold a market value of PHP1.44 million. The operations saw a continuous decline in illegal drug activities compared to previous efforts. Calubaquib noted that the quantity of illegal drugs confiscated varies weekly, depending on the actual presence and availability during operations. The confiscations contribute significantly to the overall decline in criminality within the region.
Camarines Norte recorded the highest seizure, amounting to PHP798,972.40, followed by Albay with PHP499,120, Naga City with PHP99,280, while Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon reported PHP34,000, PHP14,756, and PHP3,740, respectively. The suspects were apprehended through various methods, including buy-bust operations, serving of search warrants, and intelligence-driven police work. All arrested individuals are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon praised the efforts of the operating units and emphasized that combating illegal drugs remains a top priority in the region. He highlighted the campaign as evidence of their commitment to safeguarding the Bicol communities and called on the public to collaborate in making the region drug-free.
