Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has issued a reminder to security agencies and establishments, urging them to refrain from dressing security guards in Christmas costumes that deviate from their prescribed uniforms. This announcement was made to ensure security protocols remain intact during the holiday season.

According to Philippines News Agency, the directive was emphasized by PNP Civil Security Group (CSG) chief Maj. Gen. Leo Francisco during the 44th CSG anniversary at Camp Crame. Francisco stated that while a minimal deviation, such as wearing a Santa Claus hat, might be permissible, any significant departure from the standard uniform is not allowed without prior approval. This measure aims to prevent criminals from exploiting festive costumes to disguise themselves and commit crimes.

Francisco highlighted past instances where Christmas costumes were misused by criminals, underscoring the importance of adhering to uniform regulations. He referenced Section 14 of Republic Act 5487, also kno
wn as the Private Security Agency Law, which mandates the PNP to prescribe the uniforms and paraphernalia for security personnel across the Philippines. Francisco warned that security agencies that violate these rules could face sanctions, including the revocation of their operational permits for repeated offenses.
