Eastern visayas: The Regional Development Council (RDC) in Eastern Visayas has formed an Environment Committee to integrate environmental sustainability and climate resilience into the region’s development agenda.

According to Philippines News Agency, Department of Economy, Planning and Development Regional Director Meylene Rosales, acting RDC chairperson, stated in an interview that the committee’s establishment aims to create an inclusive and multi-sectoral approach to environmental governance. The committee, established under Executive Order No. 82 and RDC Eastern Visayas Resolution No. 54, includes members from national government agencies, local government units, and the private sector.

Rosales emphasized that the formal constitution of the Environment Committee under EO 82 is not merely about creating another body within the RDC but is an affirmation of a shared commitment to prioritize the environment, natural resources, and climate action in Eastern Visayas’ development journey. She highlighted the importance of progressing without compromising the environment.

The committee’s responsibilities include reviewing and monitoring the implementation of regional development plans, policies, and programs related to environmental sustainability and climate resilience. It will serve as a platform for advancing ecosystem protection and restoration, natural capital accounting and management, climate action and sustainability, circular economy initiatives, intergenerational responsibility, and sanitation.

Additionally, the committee is tasked with reviewing and endorsing environment-related programs, activities, and projects. It will also integrate local environmental plans into the regional framework and translate national policies into actionable regional strategies.
