Quezon city: The Quezon City government warned residents as water levels at major rivers and dams in the city reached elevated alert levels, while deep flooding was also reported on roads across several barangays. In a social media post Monday, the city government reminded residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to stay vigilant.
According to Philippines News Agency, as of 3 p.m., the government reported La Mesa Dam at alert level 3, with water at 79.69 meters; Marikina River at 17.04 meters and on alert level 2; San Juan River on alert level 3 at 14.25 meters; while Quirino or Tullahan River has subsided to 38.91 meters. 'Inaasahang maaapektuhan ng sobrang tubig mula sa La Mesa Dam ang mga mabababang lugar sa kahabaan ng Tullahan River. Kabilang dito ang: Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, San Bartolome (low-lying areas along the Tullahan River are also expected to be affected by the excess water from the La Mesa Dam. Included are Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, San Bartolome),' it said.
Communities near the Marikina River were also warned of possible flooding, particularly Bagong Silangan, Bagumbayan, Batasan Hills, Blue Ridge B, Libis, Matandang Balara, Pansol, and Ugong Norte. Areas near the San Juan River were also flagged in Lourdes, Sto. Domingo, Santol, Talayan, Roxas, Tatalon, Kalusugan, Do±a Imelda, and Damayang Lagi.
A separate road status update issued at 2:20 p.m. on Monday also showed flooding at varying depths in numerous locations, with some reaching head-deep high. The highest flooding, at head-deep or more than 60 inches, was reported at West Riverside corner Pat Senador in Barangay Del Monte, Masambong Elementary School, several intersections along N.S. Amoranto in Barangay Sienna, and East Riverside in Barangay Paltok.
Chest-deep flooding, or about 45 inches, was reported along Gumamela and Waling-Waling streets in Barangay Roxas, 77 Scout Tuazon in South Triangle, Blocks 1 to 6 in Damayang Lagi, 19th Street Tulay in Kalusugan, several N.S. Amoranto intersections in Sienna, and Caragay Street in Barangay Damayan.
Other roads were reported with waist-deep flooding at 37 inches, including Dulo Interior West Riverside in Barangay Damayan, portions of Don Jose, Ma. Clara, and G. Araneta in Barangay Sto. Domingo (Matalahib), V. Luna corner Anonas in Barangay Sikatuna, East Lawin corner Legaspi Road in Barangay Phil-Am, Malasimbo Inaman and Masambong High School, portions of Barangays Sienna, Tandang Sora, Bagong Silangan, Bagong Pag-asa, Vasra, and Manggahan.
Flooding ranging from knee-deep, tire-deep, and gutter-deep was also recorded in numerous areas, including parts of Del Monte, Sienna, Vasra, Damar, Do±a Imelda, Manresa, Sto. Domingo, Masambong, Tandang Sora, Santol, Don Manuel, Marilag, Damayan, Unang Sigaw, Balong-bato, Central, Pinyahan, UP Village, Tatalon, Sikatuna Village, and Katipunan.
The Quezon City government said it continues to monitor conditions and work to keep roads safe and passable. Residents were advised to stay alert, especially those in flood-prone and riverside communities, and to follow official announcements as water levels and road conditions may change, while urging the public to call the QC Helpline 122 for emergencies.
