Provincial Board Calls for Immediate Assessment of Government Structures in Antique Following Recent Earthquake

Antique: The Provincial Board has urged an assessment of the structural integrity of all provincial government-owned structures, including the eight district hospitals, following the 4.5 magnitude earthquake that was felt in Antique on Monday. Board member Vincent Piccio, in an interview on Wednesday, said they decided during their regular session on Monday to relay the request through the office of Governor Paolo Everardo Javier.

According to Philippines News Agency, Piccio expressed the need for an urgent assessment of the provincial government structures, including the new and old capitol buildings and hospitals. This action is driven by the presence of two active faults in the municipalities of Barbaza and San Remigio, emphasizing the need for precautionary measures to ensure safety.

In a separate interview, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) officer Broderick Train stated that the provincial government and the 18 municipalities in Antique will participate in the second quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday. The drill aims to highlight the evacuation procedures for provincial government employees at the New Capitol, ensuring they observe safe procedures.

Train elaborated on the importance of the drill, focusing on whether employees are familiar with the drop, cover, and hold technique, as well as their identified emergency exits at the New Provincial Capitol. "Until now, we are experiencing earthquake swarms, so there is really a need for us to know what to do in case of a big magnitude earthquake," Train said.
