Manila: Economist and former Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda on Tuesday praised President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s decision to appoint Finance Secretary Ralph Recto as the new executive secretary. Salceda emphasized Recto’s ability to effectively liaise with key political figures, a crucial role following the resignation of Lucas Bersamin, who stepped down due to his department’s involvement in questionable flood control projects.
According to Philippines News Agency, Salceda, who chairs the Institute for Risk and Strategic Studies, Inc., highlighted Recto’s understanding of the importance of economic outcomes in political success. He noted that Recto is one of the few political figures with extensive connections that are vital for driving economic progress.
Salceda also expressed his support for the appointment of Frederick Go, the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs, as the new secretary of the Department of Finance. He recalled collaborating with Go on significant reforms like the CREATE MORE Act and the PPP Code, underscoring Go’s practical approach to economic challenges. Salceda lauded Go’s ability to simplify business interactions with the government, emphasizing the importance of facilitating entrepreneurship and tax compliance.
Additionally, Salceda acknowledged the designation of Rolando Toledo as the officer-in-charge of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) after Amenah Pangandaman’s resignation amid the flood control controversy. He commended Toledo as a dedicated civil servant capable of leading the DBM through this transition.
