Pope Leo XIV Offers Condolences to Cardinal Tagle Over Father’s Death

Vatican city: Pope Leo XIV on Tuesday offered condolences to Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and his family for the death of his father, Manuel Tagle Sr. In a message to the Filipino cardinal, the Holy Father said he was 'deeply saddened' by the passing of the Tagle patriarch.

According to Philippines News Agency, the pontiff expressed his spiritual closeness, praying for the eternal rest of Manuel Tagle Sr. He extended his apostolic blessing to Cardinal Tagle and all those who cherish his father's memory, describing it as 'a pledge of consolation and peace' for the family. Manuel Sr., affectionately known as 'Tatay Maning,' passed away on Sunday at the age of 96.

Cardinal Tagle, who is currently 69 years old, was in Rome when his father died. He has since asked for prayers for his father's eternal rest and has returned to the country. The elder Tagle is survived by his wife, Milagros, and sons Luis Antonio and Manuel Jr.

The Diocese of Imus has announced arrangements for the wake and viewing, which will be held until September 9 at Casas Hall in the Bishop's House in Imus. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on September 10 at Imus Cathedral. Cardinal Tagle, who is the pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization at the Vatican, previously served as the Archbishop of Manila.
