Western visayas: Intensified police operations in Western Visayas led to the seizure of millions of pesos worth of suspected illegal drugs, fishing paraphernalia, firearms, and smuggled goods, the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) said Monday. In a report, PRO-6 said police recovered 800.03 grams of suspected shabu worth about PHP5.44 million during operations conducted from 6 a.m. Sunday to 5:59 a.m. Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the largest seizure was recorded in La Paz district, Iloilo City, shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, when police arrested two suspects and recovered 710 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP4.828 million. In a separate buy-bust operation in Oton, Iloilo, police arrested a high-value drug suspect and seized about 55 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP374,000.
PRO-6 also reported 12 arrests in operations against illegal fishing and the confiscation of fishing paraphernalia valued at PHP423,170. The campaign against loose firearms and explosives resulted in the surrender of 12 firearms and the recovery of five explosive-related items.
From 6 a.m. Aug. 29 to 5:59 a.m. Aug. 30, police also confiscated illegal fishing paraphernalia worth PHP1.2 million and smuggled goods valued at PHP935,000. The campaign against loose firearms resulted in one firearm being confiscated and 62 being voluntarily surrendered. Eleven other firearms were recovered or surrendered during 72 operations.
PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Randulf Tua±o said the accomplishments reflected the consistent work of police personnel in the field.
