Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will remain on full alert status even after Monday night’s conclusion of Iglesia ni Cristo’s (INC) “Rally for Transparency and a Better Democracy.” “The PNP remains on full alert. We urge everyone to continue observing safety protocols, stay vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activities,” the PNP said in a statement.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. placed the police force on full alert beginning Friday afternoon ahead of the three-day INC rally that was supposed to be held from Sunday to Tuesday but was cut short Monday night after organizers said their goal of calling for justice, accountability, transparency, and peace amid alleged government corruption has already been achieved.
The PNP reported that the crowd at Rizal Park, where the INC rally took place, during the two-day event reached over 600,000. “Despite the large turnout, the atmosphere remained calm, organized, and respectful,” it said.
Nartatez commended the deployed police officers “for their professionalism, strict observance of maximum tolerance, and tireless dedication in safeguarding the public.” The PNP earlier said it would deploy 16,000 police officers and support units to Rizal Park in Manila and the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, where the United People’s Initiative held its own rally.
