Manila: House of Representatives Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III has urged former lawmaker Elizaldy Co to return to the Philippines and confront the allegations of corruption linked to flood control projects.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dy emphasized that Co’s attempt to clear his name through a video released from abroad is insufficient. Dy stated, “If the accusations are serious, the affirmation should be stronger. He needs to appear before authorities, like the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, take an oath, and present evidence.”
Dy expressed his readiness to work with relevant government agencies to ensure Co’s safety while he provides his testimony. Upon assuming the Speakership, Dy revoked Co’s travel authority to expedite his return and address the allegations. Additionally, Dy coordinated with the Department of Foreign Affairs to cancel Co’s passport, yet Co remains abroad, communicating only through video messages.
Dy highlighted the cooperation of other lawmakers with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, contrasting it with Co’s evasion. “This is the clear difference: while the others have been forthcoming, Co has been evasive. Instead of helping clear the issues, he is adding to the confusion of the public,” Dy remarked.
Expressing solidarity with the public’s demand for transparency, Dy acknowledged the frustration caused by misinformation. “To our countrymen, I understand your anxiety and frustration due to disinformation. We understand you. You are only after the truth and that is what we also seek,” he stated.
Concluding his appeal, Dy reiterated his call for Co to return and address the Filipino people, saying, “That is why this is my call to former Rep. Co: come home and face the public.”
