Manila: Sixth seed Filipino Miguel Iglupas advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Puchit Sukjai of Thailand at the ITF J60 Coca-Cola Philta International Juniors Leg 2, held at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

According to Philippines News Agency, Iglupas, a freshman at the University of the Philippines, overcame leg cramps to secure his spot in the next round. He is set to face No. 2 seed Lin Hao-Yu of Chinese Taipei, who defeated qualifier Jack Cooper of Hong Kong 6-3, 6-2. Despite struggling with cramps after the first set, Iglupas expressed relief at completing the match successfully. This tournament marks the final juniors event for the 18-year-old from Iligan City, who is the younger brother of Fed Cup team member Khim Iglupas. Both siblings train at the Philippine Tennis Academy (PTA), founded by sports patron Romy Chan.

PTA head coach, SEAG medalist, and Davis Cupper Bobbie Angelo praised Iglupas’s determination, noting his offensive forehand and ability to make winning shots de
spite his physical discomfort. Angelo emphasized that maintaining a strong mindset, even when in pain, is a key principle at the PTA.

In other matches, fourth seed Luke Koh of Singapore, Fu Wang Choi of Hong Kong, and Yoshito Oda also secured places in the quarterfinals. In the girls’ singles category, third seed Stefi Marithe Aludo defeated Korean Choi Jeong In 6-4, 6-3, and will next face Kannchaya Chungwatana of Thailand, who triumphed over Lara Rauti of Hong Kong 6-2, 6-1. Additionally, No. 2 seed and first leg champion Oh Jiyun of Korea dominated Pimlaphat Lim of Thailand 6-1, 6-2, setting up a quarterfinal clash with compatriot Park Seojin, who won 6-2, 6-0 against Saaya Sakashita of Japan.
