Amman: The Philippines and Jordan have embarked on a significant diplomatic journey to bolster their bilateral relations, focusing on defense and agriculture, through their inaugural political consultations. The meeting marks a pivotal moment in the partnership between the two nations, with high-level discussions aimed at fostering cooperation across various sectors.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) highlighted that the discussions, held in Amman, were led by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and Jordan’s Secretary General for Diplomatic and Expatriates Affairs Majed Thalji Al-Qatarneh. The talks emphasized enhancing collaboration in agriculture, trade, consular services, defense, labor, and education.

Beyond cooperation, the dialogue provided a platform for both countries to exchange views on critical regional and international issues, including Jordan’s initiatives to rally the international community in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the
Gaza Strip. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and pursuing common objectives.

In addition to the political consultations, Undersecretary Lazaro engaged with Natheer Obeidat, president of the University of Jordan, to discuss potential academic collaborations between the University of Jordan and educational institutions in the Philippines.

The consultations concluded with the announcement that the next meeting would take place in Manila, further cementing the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the Philippines and Jordan.
