Cavite city: The Philippine Navy (PN) has placed BRP Bacolod City (LS-550), a transport ship, on standby for potential humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions due to the impending impact of Super Typhoon Uwan, internationally known as Fung-wong.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PN’s Public Affairs Office chief, Commander Maria Angelica Sisican, stated that the vessel is part of the Navy’s broader humanitarian efforts and is ready for HADR operations as Super Typhoon Uwan approaches. She mentioned that once the weather conditions permit, BRP Bacolod City will embark on its relief transport mission to deliver essential aid to communities in need.
On Saturday, personnel from the Marine Battalion Landing Team-3 (MBLT-3) assisted in loading relief goods onto BRP Bacolod City, which was docked in Cavite City. These goods are intended for delivery to areas in Cebu still recovering from the damage caused by Typhoon Tino, also known as Kalmaegi.
Commander Sisican emphasized the Navy’s commitment to serving the Filipino people, providing swift assistance and support during calamities. Super Typhoon Uwan intensified into a super typhoon on Sunday morning and poses a significant threat with its catastrophic winds and potential flooding as it moves toward Luzon.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced that all government agencies are on high alert, with preemptive evacuations in progress and toll fees suspended for emergency convoys.
