Pangasinan: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sent various forms of assistance through national government agencies to over 2,600 families in Binmaley, Pangasinan on Monday. Marcos was represented by Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo, along with Cabinet secretaries, during the distribution event in Barangay Sabangan.
According to Philippines News Agency, food packs and assistance from the Office of the Civil Defense were distributed to those who lost their homes, which included temporary shelters and cash assistance for local government units. Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III stated in an interview that the provincial government received PHP50 million from the national government for rehabilitation and urgent needs of the affected residents.
An estimated 345,673 families, totaling over 1.1 million individuals, were affected by Super Typhoon Uwan on November 9 to 10. The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided PHP5,265 Emergency Cash Transfer and Family Food Packs to the affected families in Binmaley town. Additionally, the Department of Health distributed 300 hygiene kits, 300 jerry cans with aqua tabs, and oral health kits, as confirmed by DOH-Ilocos Region Director Paula Paz Sydiongco. A medical mission involving 10 doctors and 10 nurses was also conducted in Barangay Sabangan, one of the areas severely impacted by the storm surge.
The Department of Labor and Employment is profiling residents for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. Governor Guico expressed gratitude for the assistance and highlighted ongoing discussions about long-term solutions to address flooding and storm surge impacts in the province.
The Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the storm surge from Uwan caused PHP1.3 billion in damage to agriculture and PHP176.5 million to infrastructure, with 31,638 houses partially damaged and 2,980 completely destroyed. Remarkably, there were no casualties reported, a testament to the effective implementation of preemptive and forced evacuation measures.
Guico assured residents of continued collaboration between the province, local government units, barangays, and the national government to facilitate recovery from this disaster.
