LTFRB Vows Crackdown on Unauthorized TNVS Operations

Manila: Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chair Vigor Mendoza II announced a determined effort to address ongoing franchise violations by transport network vehicle services (TNVS). Mendoza outlined plans to deploy additional mystery riders to investigate complaints against unauthorized TNVS units operating under temporary permits without proper franchise or provisional authority.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mendoza highlighted concerns regarding transport network companies (TNCs) allegedly enabling these unauthorized activities by integrating such TNVS units into their online platforms without securing the necessary permits from the LTFRB. These allegations stem from reports by previously deployed mystery riders and complaints observed on social media, prompting a meeting between Mendoza and TNC representatives.

Mendoza warned of severe repercussions if the new wave of mystery riders confirms these violations. He questioned how these units could be included in service apps without provisional authority from the LTFRB, emphasizing the need for corrective action. In response, TNC representatives agreed to collaborate with the LTFRB and explore the possibility of linking their online service apps with the LTFRB to ensure compliance of their driver partners.

Additionally, Mendoza committed to accelerating the processing of pending TNVS franchise applications, ensuring that all requirements are met promptly. He expressed an open-door policy for addressing concerns, pledging swift responses to inquiries and transparency if delays occur.

Mendoza also vowed to discontinue the issuance of temporary permits, which have been criticized by transport groups as a potential source of corruption within the agency. He called for honesty and adherence to rules from TNVS operators, warning of cancellations for any violations.
