Ilocos Norte: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivered over PHP70 million in livelihood and financial assistance on Sunday to thousands of residents affected by Typhoon Marce in Ilocos Norte. During the aid distribution at Pagudpud Cultural and Sports Complex, President Marcos extended PHP50 million in financial assistance from the Office of the President to Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Cecillia Araneta-Marcos.
According to Philippines News Agency, the President also inspected the seawall in Pagudpud and the Licerio Antiporada Sr. National High School Main in Buguey town, both damaged by the typhoon. He witnessed the distribution of PHP20 million through the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers to the local chief executives for the benefit of 3,895 typhoon victims.
President Marcos emphasized the importance of a united government approach in tackling such challenges. He stated, “Problems like these can’t be solved by one department. All departm
ents must contribute. That’s why I brought all agencies with the capabilities to help.”
The President also supervised the distribution of food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, as well as rice seeds from the Department of Agriculture and assistance from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. Various local mayors received funds to support beneficiaries in their areas, with Pagudpud Mayor Rafael Ralph Benemerito receiving PHP6.54 million for 1,273 beneficiaries.
Moreover, Pasuquin, Vintar, and Bacarra mayors each received PHP3.21 million to aid 625 beneficiaries in their respective towns. Additional funds were allocated to Adams, Bangui, Burgos, and Dumalneg for their local residents.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that 2,903 families or 9,340 individuals were affected by Marce in Ilocos Norte, with 540 families or 1,635 individuals currently in evacuation centers.
Expressing gratitude, Pagudpud Mayor Benemerito described the President’s v
isit as a beacon of hope. Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos also thanked his father for his commitment to assisting the victims and ensuring continued government support for the affected residents. Rep. Marcos assured the community of sustained aid efforts.
