Pagudpud: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced plans to expedite the reconstruction of the damaged seawall in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, emphasizing the need to protect local communities from potential storm surges and flooding. The announcement was made during an aid distribution event where over PHP70 million in livelihood and financial assistance was provided to thousands affected by Typhoon Marce at the Pagudpud Cultural and Sports Complex.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos assured that the reconstruction plans for the seawall are already underway and progressing at a swift pace. He noted that the project is set to be bid out in the coming weeks, allowing the construction process to proceed without delay. This expedited process eliminates the need for additional funding searches and appropriations, enabling immediate continuation of the project.

In addition to the seawall, Marcos highlighted the priority given to constructing an elevated road near the seawall to enhance the area’s resilie
nce against future calamities. He pointed out that the new design includes a road on top of the seawall, which will be pursued to completion.

Marcos also took the opportunity to inspect classrooms damaged by Typhoon Marce and has coordinated with the Department of Education to expedite repairs. The aim is to ensure that students can return to school as soon as possible, with alternative learning spaces already established to serve as temporary classrooms.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that Typhoon Marce affected 9,340 individuals, or 2,903 families, in Ilocos Norte. Currently, 540 families or 1,635 individuals are residing in evacuation centers.
