According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos expressed his admiration for the team’s achievement, highlighting their dominant 6-0 run in the tournament. He emphasized this victory as a testament to the unmatched talent and determination of the Filipino youth.
Marcos assured the Gilas team of the country’s continued support as they advanced to the next round. He reaffirmed the nation’s backing in their upcoming match in the FIBA Asia Cup.
Gilas concluded its undefeated run with a gold medal at the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando City, Pampanga. The team secured a decisive 70-40 win over Indonesia on Friday night.
The Philippine squad, led by first-time coach and former national team member LA Tenorio, completed the tournament at 6-0, boasting an average winning margin of 39 points. Alongside Indonesia and Malaysia, the Philippines will represent Southeast Asia in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup in Mongolia in July.
