Manila: Malaca±ang on Monday asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate former Ilocos Sur governor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson for possible inciting to sedition charges after urging students to join a ‘revolution against corruption.’

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. seeks accountability from those who may have incited violence during Sunday’s rallies. Castro emphasized that the President wants everyone who may be responsible and involved in the violent incidents to be held accountable.

Singson is alleged to have encouraged minors to skip classes to join the protests, Castro noted. She mentioned that Singson suggested parents should allow their children to rise for a revolution against corruption. This statement has led to calls for a thorough investigation to determine if Singson’s remarks fall under inciting to sedition, a charge punishable by up to six years under the Revised Penal Code.

The Palace is appealing to law enforcement and judicial bodies, specifically Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, acting PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., and the DOJ, to scrutinize Singson’s statements closely. The administration is urging these agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly to ensure that proper legal actions are taken if necessary.
