Palace Announces Special Non-Working Days Across 13 Areas for Local Celebrations

Manila: Malaca±ang has announced a series of proclamations for special non-working days in 13 different provinces and cities, designed to promote participation in notable local festivities such as founding anniversaries, charter days, and cultural celebrations.

According to Philippines News Agency, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation 986 to declare August 19 as a special non-working day in Angono, Rizal, marking the town’s separation from Binangonan. Proclamation 987 designates August 20 as a special non-working day in Lucena City to celebrate its 64th charter anniversary, known locally as Araw ng Lucena.

Proclamation 988 sets August 29 as a special non-working day in Dangcagan, Bukidnon, recognizing its founding anniversary. Similarly, Proclamation 989 declares August 30 as a holiday in Mandaue City, Cebu, in honor of its 56th charter anniversary and marks the city’s official government formation under Proclamation 586 from 1969.

Proclamation 990 establishes September 5 as a special non-working day in General Santos City, South Cotabato, for the 27th Tuna Festival. Meanwhile, Proclamation 991 declares September 8 as a holiday in Loon, Bohol, to celebrate the SidlaKasilak Festival, also known as the Festival of Lights.

Continuing the series of proclamations, Proclamation 992 marks September 8 as a special non-working day in Digos City, Davao del Sur, in celebration of its 25th founding anniversary, also referred to as Araw ng Digos. Proclamation 993 sets September 9 as a special non-working day in Bais City, Negros Oriental, for its 57th charter anniversary.

Proclamation 994 makes September 13 a special non-working day in Claver, Surigao del Norte, for its founding anniversary (Adlaw Nan Claver). Similarly, Proclamation 995 declares September 18 as a holiday in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, for its 73rd founding anniversary.

Additional declarations include Proclamation 996 for September 3 in Iriga City, Camarines Sur, for its 57th charter anniversary, and Proclamation 997 for September 8 in Makilala, North Cotabato, for its 71st founding anniversary.

Proclamation 998 designates September 13 as a special non-working day in the Cordillera Administrative Region to commemorate the Sipat. On this date in 1986, then-President Corazon C. Aquino met with the Cordillera Bodong Administration and the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army to signify the Sipat, or cessation of hostilities, acknowledging the region’s aspirations for autonomy.

The proclamations were signed on various dates: Proclamations 986 and 987 on August 4, Proclamations 988 through 995 on August 8, and Proclamations 996 through 998 on August 11.
