Manila: Malaca±ang said Saturday that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is carrying out its mandate in accordance with the law, without bias or political considerations. In a statement, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that the police force remains focused on protecting the rights of individuals under its protection and serving the interests of the Filipino people.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro's statement was in response to Vice President Sara Duterte's remarks expressing fear for her safety and life after police visited the location where her children were, following the Quezon City Regional Trial Court's (RTC) issuance of an arrest warrant against her. Duterte expressed feeling 'unsafe' and believed that 'they are going to kill' her.

Castro reassured that the government would not allow the police force to be used as a 'weapon to perpetrate violence.' She urged those with complaints to seek appropriate legal remedies rather than making unsubstantiated accusations.

The PNP, in its statement, acknowledged the concerns raised by Duterte regarding the alleged conduct of police personnel and stated that it is monitoring the situation. To date, Vice President Duterte has not reported any threats to her life or her family's safety to the PNP, nor has the PNP identified any verified threats against them.

The PNP provided security assistance during the Vice President's appearance at the QC RTC when she posted bail, ensuring her safe departure from the court. PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized the PNP's openness to receiving any document or report concerning the reported threats for proper assessment and verification.
