Kasibu: Listed mining company OceanaGold Philippines (OGP) Inc. announced that it has paid PHP397.8 million in local business taxes to three municipalities in Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino this year. The payments include PHP198.9 million to Kasibu in Nueva Vizcaya, and PHP119.3 million and PHP79.6 million to Nagtipunan and Cabarroguis in Quirino, respectively, on February 11.
According to Philippines News Agency, OGP President and General Manager of External Affairs and Social Performance Joan Adaci-Cattiling emphasized the importance of continuing operations at the Didipio Mine to provide ongoing benefits to local communities. “We are all working for the continuing operations of the mine so that we are able to continue giving benefits to our communities, agyaman kami (thank you),” Adaci-Cattiling stated.
Last year, OGP remitted a total of PHP421.9 million in local business taxes to the same three municipalities. The Didipio Mine, operated by OGP, is an underground gold-copper mine situated across the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino. The company initially entered into a Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA) with the Philippine government in June 1994. The initial term of the FTAA concluded in June 2019, but it was confirmed renewed in July 2021 following the execution of an addendum and renewal agreement.
OGP is a subsidiary of OceanaGold Corporation, which also operates the Waihi and Macraes mines in New Zealand, as well as the Haile mine in the United States.
