San roque dam: The National Power Corp. (NPC) terminated water discharge from the spillway gates of the San Roque Dam at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This decision was influenced by the need to conserve water in anticipation of a strong El Ni±o phenomenon.

According to Philippines News Agency, the action was based on a Notice on Dam Discharge Warning Operation issued by the NPC San Roque Dam Office. Ma. Teresa Serra, acting manager of the NPC Dams Management Department, confirmed the cessation of discharge in a phone interview on Wednesday. "Based on simulations yesterday, the inflows for San Roque Dam is now manageable. We also want to balance the water from the reservoir in consideration of the strong El Ni±o that we are anticipating," Serra stated.

In addition to closing the low-level outlet, which was previously used to manage inflows, the management of the dam's water levels will now rely on turbine generation. This approach aims to maintain the reservoir's water balance without additional water release.

Previously, on September 2, the NPC San Roque Dam Office had opened two gates of the dam at 8 a.m. due to high water levels, releasing water at a rate of 300 cubic meters per second. At 5 a.m. on Wednesday, the water level at the reservoir stood at 277.37 meters above sea level, slightly below the 280-meter spilling level.
