Para±aque city: The National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Para±aque City has clarified that there was no shooting incident inside the church on Sunday. According to Philippines News Agency, Rector Fr. Rico John Bilangel addressed concerns through a social media post on Sunday evening, following an incident involving an intoxicated man carrying a firearm on the afternoon of August 30.
"It is important to clarify that no shooting took place during the incident. Our security personnel and the authorities responded promptly, and the individual involved is now in police custody," Fr. Bilangel stated. Despite the alarming situation, the church confirmed that security measures were effective, and the man with the firearm was quickly subdued.
Fr. Bilangel also noted that two individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident. Both have received first aid and are reported to be recovering well. The church official emphasized the importance of sharing verified information to prevent unnecessary confusion and panic.
He further reassured the public by stating, "We continue to prioritize the safety and security of all devotees and churchgoers." The incident has sparked discussions about ensuring security in public places, and the church remains committed to safeguarding its community.
