Cebu: The yellow alert status in the Visayas grid for Wednesday has been shortened by three hours, following the restoration of several power plants and their generating units.

According to Philippines News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) had initially issued a yellow alert status due to the unavailability of 27 power plants after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu on Tuesday night. This alert was originally set from 1 p.m. to midnight but is now reduced to end at 9 p.m.

In a 3 p.m. advisory, NGCP reported that the available capacity of the Visayas grid stands at approximately 2,052 megawatts (MW), while the peak demand is around 1,868 MW. This adjustment in alert status was made possible as three generating units of the Cebu Energy Development Corporation, and one unit each from the Toledo Power Company and Green Core Geothermal Inc. were restored and reconnected to the grid.

Additionally, more power plants have reported the availability of their generating units, including three units from the East Asia Utilities Corporation (EAUC), two from the Cebu Private Power Corporation, three units from the Bohol diesel power plant, and two units from the Panay Diesel Power Plant 3. The Luzon and Mindanao grids remain under normal conditions.
