Legazpi: The 70 barangays of this city are now better equipped to respond to community needs, particularly in disaster risk mitigation and resilience, following the turnover of 45 new rescue vehicles to the barangays.
According to Philippines News Agency, outgoing Legazpi City Mayor Alfredo Garbin highlighted the importance of these new vehicles as essential assets for the barangays. He emphasized their role in enhancing the ability to respond quickly to emergencies, ensuring the safety and security of residents. Garbin expressed gratitude for the support from the Ako Bicol (AKB) Partylist in facilitating the turnover of the vehicles, which now equip all 70 barangays with these critical tools.
Garbin urged barangay officials to ensure the vehicles are used solely for public purposes, aligning with their responsibilities. He cautioned against the misuse of the vehicles for personal convenience or any activities that would abuse state resources, including gasoline, maintenance, and employment of drivers, all funded by the barangay.
Garbin also stressed the importance of proper maintenance, reminding barangays of their duty to keep the vehicles operational. He assured that all procurement processes for the rescue vehicles complied with the election code.
As an incoming AKB Party-list lawmaker, Garbin announced plans to extend similar support to other towns and cities. AKB Rep. Elizaldy Co echoed this sentiment, stating that the vehicles are part of a broader effort to address community needs related to safety and emergency services. He described the vehicles as symbols of quick action, concern, and readiness for each barangay.
Beyond the rescue vehicles, Co noted additional services provided by AKB, including power supply repairs in Albay, solar power projects, and zero-billing programs in hospitals such as the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) and the Legazpi City Hospital.
