Negros Oriental Police Launches ‘SAFE NIR’ Initiative to Enhance Community Safety

Dumaguete: The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) is ramping up its collaboration with other law enforcement agencies through the 'SAFE NIR' initiative, spearheaded by the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region. This program aims to create safer communities by enhancing police visibility and response.

According to Philippines News Agency, NOrPPO spokesperson Capt. Stephen Jaynard Polinar discussed during an online press conference that the initiative, built around the Dial 911 emergency hotline, is designed to ensure swift police response and increased community visibility. The acronym 'SAFE' stands for Seen, Appreciated, Felt, and Extraordinary police service.

Polinar emphasized that the 'SAFE' initiative encompasses not only anti-criminality efforts and efficient public service but also effective emergency response across the province. The official launch of the SAFE NIR, Dial 911 program is scheduled for June 25 in the capital of Negros Oriental.

This initiative complements the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) Safer Cities program by adopting a multi-agency approach. It aims to utilize the capabilities of various participating agencies while promoting innovative public safety programs and projects.

The SAFE NIR initiative will focus on increasing police visibility through more foot patrols and the presence of law enforcement personnel in commercial areas, transport hubs, and other high-foot-traffic locations. This strategy is intended to deter crime and reassure the public about their safety.

Furthermore, the program underscores professionalism and adherence to ethical standards, with strict compliance to operational procedures and a zero-tolerance policy against misconduct among law enforcement ranks. Monitoring mechanisms will be fortified to enhance transparency and accountability among personnel.

The NOrPPO has encouraged the public to utilize the 911 hotline for quicker emergency response and assistance. Polinar mentioned that they are collaborating with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices from local government units, and other authorities for the successful implementation of the initiative.
