Pangasinan: The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported a total of 3,587 families or 10,629 individuals in the province have been affected by Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa) as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. PDRRMO emergency operation center team leader Maegan Equila, in a phone interview, said 33 families or 80 individuals in six barangays of three municipalities are being served inside evacuation centers, while six families or 17 individuals are being served outside evacuation centers.

According to Philippines News Agency, 57 barangays in Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Laoac, Pozorrubio, Asingan, San Jacinto, San Nicolas towns, and Urdaneta City are experiencing flooding, while there was a recorded landslide in portions of Villa Verde Road in San Nicolas town. “There still no reported casualty so far,” Equila added.

All 48 local government units (LGUs) implemented localized suspension of classes on Tuesday, Equila stated. PDRRMO continues to monitor the river systems in the province since water from the upstream is expected to go downstream. “Council members are still on standby since there is still reported rainfall in the mountainous areas so we anticipate the water to go down to the river systems,” she said.

As of 8 a.m., Marusay River in Calasiao and Sinucalan River in Dagupan City are above critical level, which might cause further flooding in low-lying areas. An orange warning level is raised in the province due to the trough of Nando with an expected accumulated amount of rainfall from 15 to 30 millimeters, according to the PDRRMO. Meanwhile, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office has prepositioned family food packs to augment LGUs’ relief efforts. The province remains under red alert status.
