Pasig City: The Magilas Pilipinas Basketball Association (MPBA) is set to launch its Women’s Championship on November 23 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. This event aims to unearth new basketball talents among women and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills.

According to Philippines News Agency, the participating teams for this championship include Eastside, Sunday Rim Hoopers, Amarix Baller, Shape and Shades, Elijah, Cyubico, Calamba Hoopers, and Philippine Christian University. MPBA founder Fernando ‘Kotz’ Arimado highlighted the importance of this league in offering opportunities for talented women players to demonstrate their abilities. Speaking at the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) ‘Usapang Sports’ held at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Conference Room in Malate, Manila, Arimado expressed hope that the league would aid in discovering new talents for the national team.

Registration for the championship is still open, providing a chance for more p
layers to gain competitive basketball experience. Arimado assured that the league’s referees, who have previously officiated in major leagues, would ensure an organized and systematic program. He was accompanied by league technical committee head Allan Maronilla and coaches Rica Francisco and Jons Madriaga at the sports forum.

Rica Francisco noted the progress in women’s basketball, emphasizing that unlike in the past, games now receive full coverage and there are professional leagues available. She expressed optimism that the MPBA Women’s Championship would inspire women players to pursue professional careers in basketball.
