Batangas:The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has initiated safety inspections on passenger ships at the Port of Batangas to ensure compliance with maritime regulations ahead of the Undas travel surge in 2026.
According to Philippines News Agency, MARINA's inspections are part of the 'Oplan Byaheng Ayos Undas 2026' initiative, which focuses on identifying safety deficiencies and ensuring passenger vessels meet the required standards before departing.
The inspections reviewed ship certificates, life-saving appliances, electrical systems, crew complement, and crew competency. MARINA Deputy Administrator for Operations Loumer Bernabe and Enforcement Service Director Luisito delos Santos led the efforts.
Technical personnel from the Enforcement Service and Regional Office 4 conducted the compliance monitoring and inspection, with assistance from the Philippine Coast Guard. MARINA stated it would continue collaborating with port authorities and maritime stakeholders to enhance safety enforcement and help prevent accidents as sea travel increases during the holidays.
