Marcos Vows Sustained, Faster Aid to Mindanao Quake Victims

Koronadal city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday assured victims of the recent powerful earthquake in Mindanao that government assistance would continue and reach beneficiaries more quickly following reforms in disaster response mechanisms. During his visit to Koronadal City, Marcos stated that the government has transitioned from the relief phase to the recovery stage, with affected families now receiving cash assistance to help rebuild their homes.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos said financial aid is being extended to residents whose houses were either destroyed or damaged. He mentioned that cash transfers are being provided because the relief phase has ended, and the government has already distributed food assistance. Medical attention has also been provided to those injured by the disaster.

Marcos pointed out reforms in the government's Quick Response Fund (QRF) system, which helped accelerate the release of assistance to earthquake victims. He emphasized that local government offices are now authorized to conduct evaluations, allowing aid to be processed and delivered faster, instead of waiting for assessment teams from Metro Manila.

The President explained that PHP20 million was immediately released from the QRF for equipment and other urgent needs, especially for those whose homes were damaged. He said the new approach has shortened response times and enabled government agencies to reach affected communities more efficiently.

Marcos reiterated that disaster response remains a priority of his administration and pledged continued support for families and communities working to recover from the devastation caused by the earthquake. He assured that the delivery of assistance has been sped up, and the government will continue to support everyone affected by the powerful earthquake.

Families impacted by the recent 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Southern Mindanao are receiving financial assistance through the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Program.
