PBBM and OPAPRU Reaffirm Commitment to Bangsamoro Peace Deal Implementation

Manila: Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento has reiterated the agency and the government's commitment to implementing the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and advancing the peace process.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Sarmiento emphasized the unity between the government and peace partners in building a peaceful and self-governing Bangsamoro. He highlighted the shared responsibility of all parties in strengthening the achievements made so far in the peace journey. He also noted the continued engagement of the Office of the President while waiting for the appointment of a new chair for the Government Peace Implementing Panel.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is committed to the full implementation of the CAB, which is crucial for the future of the Bangsamoro, Sarmiento added. He pointed out the courage, sacrifice, and leadership required from all sides to sustain and build upon the peace gains. The focus remains on improving the systems and mechanisms that support the peace process, including advocating for key peace priorities in the proposed 2027 national budget.

Sarmiento expressed the OPAPRU's respect for the peaceful expression of views as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) prepares for its first regional parliamentary elections. He underscored the importance of a peaceful and credible electoral process, emphasizing non-partisanship and the agency's commitment to supporting peace and development in the region.

The OPAPRU chief urged peace partners and stakeholders, including local government units, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and citizens, to act as stewards of peace and development. He affirmed the agency's commitment to working with the BARMM government and peace implementing mechanisms to ensure a secure future for the Bangsamoro.
