Marcos Conducts Inspection in Typhoon Tino-Affected Areas in Negros Occidental

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inspected areas severely damaged by Typhoon Tino in Negros Occidental, focusing on the condition of displaced families and damaged infrastructure.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos visited the Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School in Barangay 1, Moises Padilla town. The school suffered significant flooding after Tino struck on November 4, submerging several classrooms. Due to the damage, 1,257 students and teachers have shifted to alternative learning methods to ensure the continuity of education.

Following his visit to the school, President Marcos went to Barangay Poblacion 1 to meet with affected residents and assess the damage to their homes. He also reviewed the situation of 307 families, totaling 1,117 individuals, who are temporarily sheltering at La Castellana Elementary School.

President Marcos inspected the Bungahin Steel Bridge, which collapsed during the typhoon, severing access between upland villages and the La Castellana town proper. The collapse of the bridge has caused significant disruptions in the area.

After conducting site inspections, President Marcos led a situation briefing at the municipal hall. The briefing was attended by cabinet members from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Energy, Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, as well as local officials.

The government has allocated PHP95 million for recovery efforts in Negros Occidental. Typhoon Tino damaged at least 48,290 houses in the province, with 6,855 reported as totally destroyed, based on data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
