San juan: San Beda University pulled off a 65-56 victory over Jose Rizal University (JRU) to take the Group B lead in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 men’s basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena on Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, John Bryan Sajonia topped the scoring with 18 points for the Red Lions, who improved their record to 8-3. Agjanti Miller contributed 16 points, including two decisive triples in the final two minutes of the game. “I took a little step back in this game because I’ve been sick all week, so this is like a first game back for me,” said Miller, who also captured eight rebounds. “At the last second, the ball came to me and I just had to put the game away, that’s the only thing on my mind.”
Allen Laurenaria and Shawn Argente each scored 12 points, while Harry Angelo Herrera added 10 points for JRU. With this loss, JRU slid to fifth place with a 6-6 record, trailing behind Letran, which holds a 6-5 slate.
