Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has assured Filipinos affected by widespread flooding, triggered by the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), that the government is maintaining a round-the-clock response to provide immediate assistance and relief to impacted communities. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro revealed that Marcos has been closely monitoring the situation, visiting flood-stricken areas in Bulacan and Pampanga, and meeting with local officials to assess their needs.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos has instructed Cabinet officials to ensure the availability of sufficient food and non-food supplies, medicines, and well-maintained evacuation centers for the affected communities. He has also tasked relevant agencies with pursuing both immediate and long-term solutions to address the flooding issues in Bulacan and Pampanga.
Castro reported that Marcos dispatched Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos to personally inspect the situation in Hagonoy and Paombong, Bulacan. During a briefing with Cabinet officials amidst heavy rains over the weekend, the President emphasized the importance of ensuring that residents receive adequate food and essential non-food assistance. Dizon also updated the President on the infrastructure and bridge damage caused by the floods.
'In situations like these, the President does not need to issue orders to the concerned Cabinet members because they already know what the President wants: swift action,' Castro stated. She added that Marcos will convene a Central Luzon and Metro Manila Response Meeting on Monday afternoon with officials from various departments to further assess the flooding situation and determine additional measures.
The President urged affected Filipinos to remain vigilant and follow authorities' instructions, assuring them of the necessary government assistance. 'If evacuation becomes necessary, please follow instructions immediately for your safety,' Castro advised. She also reassured that help is on the way, and residents will not be left to go hungry, with non-food items such as hygiene kits, sleeping gear, clothing, and kitchen kits to be fully provided.
