Lady Red Spikers Notch Second Win in V-League Collegiate Challenge

Mandaluyong city: San Beda University survived the University of the East, 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-18, on Wednesday to secure its second win in the V-League Collegiate Challenge at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City.

According to Philippines News Agency, Khim Culanay, the NCAA Season 101 Volleyball Fiesta 1st Best Middle Blocker, led the Lady Red Spikers with 22 points on eight attacks, 13 blocks, and an ace. Rochelle Olaguir contributed 18 points and 11 digs, Daisy Cagas had 15 points while Angel Habacon scored seven points along with 15 receptions.

San Beda, which improved to 2-2, will next face De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on September 12. 'The team's potential was evident, as well as the individual adjustments needed to make the team stronger," San Beda head coach Kungfu Reyes said. 'I just reminded them of how we practice-that's how they needed to play-and the good thing is, they didn't let up until the very end. Rookie errors were still evident, so they just need to keep playing to gain more experience," he added.

Newcomers Rookies Djulianne Goze and Janessa Buhay scored 18 points each while libero Angge Reyes had 32 digs and 26 receptions for the Lady Warriors. Rookie setter Cheska Pe±ol went down with a right ankle injury after landing on Paula Palma's foot following Palma's attack attempt. UE will battle University of Perpetual Help System DALTA on September 13.
