Tunis:Ilocos Region About 13,000 farmers in the Ilocos Region are set to receive fuel subsidies from the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) Program. Each qualified farmer will receive PHP5,000 directly to their e-wallets, as announced by DA project evaluation officer Milagros Dela Rosa during a forum.
According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution of this assistance is part of a broader PHP6.2-billion UPLIFT fund allocated nationwide. This initiative aligns with the government's ongoing efforts to safeguard agricultural and fishery production and support farmers and fisherfolk amid developing El Niño conditions.
UPLIFT, a national program initiated by Executive Order 110 under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., addresses global energy crises and economic challenges by enhancing food security and agricultural resilience. The DA has previously supported farmers through the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk (PAFF), with the first batch of beneficiaries having completed their claims, though some remain to be collected.
