Tunis:The House of Representatives has approved House Bill No. 10858, outlining appropriations for government operations from January 1 to December 31, 2027. This PHP7.2 trillion budget aims to enhance transparency and ensure taxpayer money translates into improved services and programs.
According to Philippines News Agency, House Speaker Faustino Dy III emphasized the chamber's commitment to ensuring that funds raised through taxes are wisely spent on initiatives that significantly impact citizens' lives. This commitment was made when the National Expenditure Program was received in August.
The budget includes critical amendments, such as an additional PHP10.06 billion for education, aimed at enhancing school safety, inclusive learning, academic recovery, and access to tertiary education. The health sector is also prioritized with PHP23.97 billion earmarked for the Medical Assistance Program to maintain zero-balance billing in government hospitals.
In anticipation of the 'Super El Niño,' the House allocated additional funds, including PHP10 billion for Presidential Assistance to Farmers and Fisherfolk, and PHP4.09 billion for irrigation projects. Transportation also receives a boost with PHP500 million for the Service Contracting Program and PHP1 billion for fuel subsidies for public transport providers.
Speaker Dy called on the public to join in monitoring the implementation of these programs, underscoring the importance of transparency and accountability in using the budget, which ultimately belongs to the people.
