Makati city: Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, has received the Ordre National du M©rite (National Order of Merit) in the rank of Officer from the Government of France during a ceremony led by the French Embassy in Manila. The recognition was presented to Gavan by French Ambassador to the Philippines Marie Fontanel in Makati City on Monday in recognition of Gavan's 'distinguished public service and contributions to strengthening maritime cooperation between the Philippines and France.'
According to Philippines News Agency, Gavan expressed gratitude to the French government and emphasized the collective service and dedication of PCG personnel under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s 'Bagong Pilipinas.' He acknowledged that recognition is a testament to the efforts of many within the organization, including past leaders, current colleagues, and personnel who diligently perform their duties away from public attention.
Gavan praised the 'courage, professionalism, and commitment' of the PCG personnel, stating that the honor reflected their service. He noted that the award highlights the enduring friendship between the Philippines and France, with ongoing maritime cooperation yielding benefits in maritime security, safety, humanitarian response, and operational capability.
He specifically mentioned the BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301), a key vessel in the PCG's fleet, which was constructed in France. Gavan reiterated France's consistent trust in the Philippine Coast Guard as a maritime partner, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this trust.
Gavan also expressed appreciation to Fontanel and the French Embassy in Manila for their efforts in enhancing bilateral relations and practical cooperation between the nations.
