Manila: France and Australia on Thursday conveyed their condolences to the Philippines following a deadly ferry fire off the coast of Palawan, which resulted in five fatalities and left many missing.

According to Philippines News Agency, the French Embassy in Manila issued a statement expressing their deep sympathy for the victims and their families. The statement highlighted their solidarity with the Filipino people during this challenging time.

Similarly, Australian Ambassador to Manila, Marc Innes-Brown, shared his condolences in a post on X. He expressed his hope for the safe recovery of those still missing following the tragic incident in Palawan.

The ferry, MV June Aster, was en route with 134 individuals aboard, comprising 117 passengers and 17 crew members, when it caught fire on Wednesday evening near Coron, Palawan. The Philippine Coast Guard is actively searching for at least 86 people who remain unaccounted for, while confirming that five lives were lost in the blaze.
