Flower Farmers in La Trinidad Thrive with Direct Sales During Undas

La Trinidad:Flower farmers in La Trinidad, Benguet, experienced significant success by selling their harvest directly to consumers during the Undas season. Many farmers reported selling their entire stock, benefiting from direct consumer interaction.

According to Philippines News Agency, Andy Colti, a flower farmer-leader and farmer-scientist from Benguet, expressed satisfaction with the direct sales initiative, highlighting the strong sales and the opportunity for farmers to sell all their available flowers. The La Trinidad municipal government facilitated this by setting up a temporary flower market at the local public market parking area before All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, collectively known as Undas.

The initiative allowed both farmers and buyers to negotiate prices directly, with at least 120 stalls dedicated to flower farmers from La Trinidad. Farmers from other Benguet towns could also participate if they had connections with local farmers. Colti appreciated the municipal government's ordinance that established the designated selling area, enabling farmers to bypass traders who might offer lower prices.

Meanwhile, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) reported a generally peaceful Undas 2026, with no major security incidents at cemeteries, memorial parks, or transport terminals. Minor incidents included four crime reports and five vehicular traffic issues, involving only physical injuries and property damage. Police operations covered cemeteries, roads, and public gathering areas, with about 45,000 visitors recorded at the public cemetery from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
