First Gen Targets 180MW Renewable Power Deals with Data Centers

Makati City: The country’s largest clean energy provider, First Gen Corp., is currently in negotiations to supply at least 180 megawatts of power to data centers in the Philippines, according to First Gen Energy Solutions, Inc. president and chief operating officer, Carlos Lorenzo Vega.

According to Philippines News Agency, Vega revealed in an interview that the company already provides 17.4 MW of clean power to 11 data center facilities across the country. He highlighted the growing demand for renewable energy sources among data centers, which operate continuously and are eager to reduce their carbon footprint.

Vega pointed out the challenges posed by the energy mix in the Philippines, which is largely dominated by conventional power plants. He mentioned that some data centers are willing to purchase renewable energy certificates as a way to offset their reliance on coal power.

During the Data Center Association of the Philippines (DCAP) Executive Roundtable Summit 2025 held in Makati City, First Gen Corp.’s assistant vice president, Arlene Soriano, discussed the anticipated expansion of data centers and the resulting pressure on the energy sector to provide reliable, low-emission, and cost-effective electricity. Soriano emphasized that data centers’ substantial energy consumption is a major contributor to their carbon footprint and operational costs.

First Gen is positioning itself as a key supplier for data centers seeking clean energy solutions. The company currently boasts a 3.6-gigawatt portfolio that includes natural gas, geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar assets, and is committed to developing 13 GW of clean power by 2030.
