Efforts Amplified to Combat Misinformation and Promote Development in Mindanao

DAVAO: In an effort to counter misinformation and promote regional development, the Joint Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in the Davao Region (JRTF 11-ELCAC) is enhancing its strategic communication efforts. The initiative aims to highlight Mindanao’s progress while addressing the spread of fake news.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mindanao Development Authority Secretary and JRTF 11-ELCAC chairperson, Secretary Leo Tereso Magno, emphasized the necessity for proactive measures to ensure the dissemination of truthful information. By revitalizing the strategic communication cluster, the government aims to effectively share success stories and development milestones in Mindanao. Magno underscored the importance of combating misinformation to provide the public with accurate data.

During the task force’s recent Quarter 4 meeting, participants discussed their ultimate objective of delivering precise and trustworthy news to the populace. The move received support from Philippine Information Agency regional director Rene Carbayas, who acknowledged its significance in enhancing the government’s efforts against communist armed conflict.

Carbayas noted that the initiative is essential for the Philippine Information Agency, especially given its limited resources. The strengthened strategic communication cluster is expected to enhance the agency’s capacity to deliver impactful communication, supporting peace and development in the region.

Furthermore, Carbayas emphasized the strategic communication cluster’s vital role in maintaining peace and progress, particularly in transforming the lives of former rebels. The cluster aims to ensure that government programs continue to receive support, preventing rescued individuals from returning to armed struggle.

The JRTF 11-ELCAC remains committed to its mission of eradicating insurgency and fostering a stable, progressive Mindanao through transparent communication and collaborative efforts.
