MANILA: The Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, has been hailed as a model of transparency and efficiency in government spending, achieving a 99.31 percent utilization rate of its PHP26.7 billion budget in 2024, according to Elizaldy Co, chairperson of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee.
According to Philippines News Agency, Elizaldy Co stated that AKAP exemplifies the optimal use of government funds, operating with zero corruption and providing essential support amid economic challenges such as rising inflation. Co emphasized that the program sets a high standard for government initiatives, countering criticism by demonstrating tangible benefits to those in need.
AKAP is designed to assist 5 million Filipinos by 2025, focusing on improving the lives of those affected by inflation and economic hardships. Co underlined the necessity of transparency and accountability in all government actions, advocating for leadership that is honest and efficient.
In conjunction with the program’s success, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced during the signing of the 2025 General Appropriations Act that AKAP’s funding would undergo conditional implementation. This measure aims to ensure that public funds are used according to their intended purposes, further reinforcing the program’s commitment to transparency and responsible governance.
