Lubao: Zianbeau Edoc fired a 70 for a 141 total to dominate the boys’ 11-14 division in the ICTSI Pradera Verde Junior PGT Championship in Lubao, Pampanga Wednesday. Vito Sarines closed with a 69 to finish second at 143, followed by Race Manhit, who carded a 72 for third at 146. Jacob Casuga and Jacobo Gomez placed fourth and fifth, with 151 and 153 after 77 and 78, respectively.
According to Philippines News Agency, Edoc claimed a second straight win after missing the first four legs. ‘I was making more putts today and hitting my wedges closer to the pin. I’ve learned the importance of starting strong and reading the greens better,’ said Edoc. In the girls’ 11-14 division, Lisa Sarines posted a 68 to overtake twin sister Mona and pocket her third leg title with a four-under 140 total. Mona, who opened with a 71, matched that score on Day 2 to finish at 142.
‘It feels very refreshing and relieving. I’ve been working harder and harder with my coach,’ said Lisa. Kendra Garingalao carded a 73 for third at 151, maintaining the No. 3 spot in the division rankings behind the Sarines sisters. Meanwhile, Ronee Dungca of Angeles City carded a 69 for a two-day total of 143 to clinch the girls’ 7-10 title. ‘I focused more on my short game, and it really paid off with a good score,’ said nine-year-old Dungca, who won her second title after the Riviera leg. ‘I just stayed relaxed, focused, and enjoyed the game,’ added the OB Montessori student.
Mavis Espedido had a 74 for a 144 total to finish second, while Venus delos Santos settled for third at 151 after a 76. Penelope Sy carded an 80 and finished fourth at 164, followed by Tyra Garingalao, who also had an 80 to end up fifth at 167. In the boys’ division, Zoji Edoc beat Halo Pangilinan by 11 strokes to secure his second straight leg title – and third overall. Edoc carded a 78 for a 154 total, while Pangilinan registered an 81 for 165. Korean Sooreen Lee finished third at 170 after another 85.
The last of the seven-stage Luzon series will be held at Camp John Hay in Baguio City next week.
